5 Months

My little baby boy is 5 months old (3/2)! I say it every month, but this one REALLY snuck up on me. I feel like this month has been full of him learning new things and his sweet personality is really starting to show. Makes me so proud!

Cooper's Size
Cooper weighed 16 pounds even and was 27 1/2 inches long at his appointment on February 14th. He is in size 6-9 month clothes and wears a size 2 diaper. We noticed the other day that his swaddle sack is almost too short now, so we will have to size up on that very soon.
Even though I compare these pictures every month, it still blows my mind to see the difference!

Cooper's Likes

He loves when we sing to him and "Patty Cake" is his favorite. He loves eating and bath time. He still loves the Sprout channel and Sesame Street really gets his attention. I have gotten to where lately I'll put down this giant beach blanket we have (it's like 5x7) in the living room and I just lay out his toys, lay him in the center and let him roll and scoot all around. I will walk out of the room for a second and when I come back he will have scooted halfway across the blanket and be turned completely around. Cracks me up! He loves when Mommy reads and has started grabbing at the pages and touching the pictures. He loves his paci, Sophie, music and his Daddy making him laugh.
He is so easy going, it doesn't take much to please him. Such a happy boy.

Cooper's Dislikes
Not a lot for this one. He doesn't like having a wet diaper or being hungry. That's it!

Places We Go
We go to the grocery store, to Mimi's and Poppy's, Lolly and Pop's, great grandparents' houses on Sundays, family lunch, Church, out to eat and to friends' houses.
This month we also went to a UAB vs. ECU basketball game to see Aunt Ashley's team play and to see Mimi work so Mommy could get her teeth cleaned. He also spent the night at Lolly and Pop's for the night for the first time.

What We Are Up To
The coolest thing this month was getting to see Coop roll over (2/26). It was like he had been trying for weeks and then one day it clicked and he did it like he had being rolling over all his life. He rolled back to tummy first and then learned to roll tummy to back a few days later. So proud!

He has found his feet and they are his new favorite toy. He grabs them and stares at them and pulls them to his mouth.

He has mastered the art of grabbing. If we hold a toy in front of him, he will grab it and it immediately goes to his mouth. If he is playing on the floor and we lay a toy near him, he will reach and scoot until he gets it. He has also started grabbing anything in his reach, like wipes on the changing table, pillows on the couch, etc. He will grab his bottle or his spoon of food when he sees it coming towards him and pull it to his mouth. He also grabs my face and pulls it towards his face. Melts my heart!

Cooper SNORES like a grown man. Ha! It cracks me up! Taking after his Daddy already.

He is blowing bubbles like crazy. It's pretty adorable. His poor bib and shirt is always soaked from blowing bubbles and drooling.

He loves to babble and tell us all kinds of things. Ha!

He is so strong and can pull himself up into a sitting position if you hold his hands. He stands on our laps and sometimes it's difficult to get him to sit back down. He likes to stand up and take everything in.

He is still slurping on those fingers and (GASP) has started sucking on his thumb. Uh oh! Ha! (I think it's precious).

He is very aware of his surroundings and checks everything and everyone out. When we go to the grocery store on Thursday mornings, it is mostly older people shopping and they eat him UP! He just smiles and babbles at them and it tickles them. Maybe he will have a soft heart for older people like his Momma does. ;)

He is still sleeping from 9:00 at night until 9:00-10:00 in the morning in his crib. He takes a nap at around 11:30 and another at around 3:00. These both last about an hour to an hour and a half.

He is eating 8 oz. every three hours, with cereal/baby food twice a day. Chunk!

 Foods We Have Tried
Baby food has officially begun (3/5). Dr. Cortopassi told us that we could start orange/yellow baby food 2 weeks from his last appointment on Feb. 14th. I went to the store and bought Gerber sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, bananas and peaches. I am planning to make his food, but I figured I would buy one of each store bought food to try and get an idea of what he likes before I make up a huge batch of something he doesn't like.

Cereal (2/14) - Success
Sweet potatoes (3/5) - BIG success. He loved them!

We started sweet potatoes yesterday morning and so far no allergies. I'm gonna give it 3 more days and then we'll add in squash. We're introducing veggies first and then we'll try the fruits.

Cooper Joseph, we are so proud of you! This month has been a blast and you are getting so big, SO FAST! Your Daddy sometimes looks at me and says "Look how big our Little Buddy is getting". You never cease to amaze us with each accomplishment and watching life through your eyes brings us so much joy. You are a blessing and we are so thankful that our Lord is allowing us to be your Mommy and Daddy!
